Dinner for Who- I didn't find the fact that the Germans watch this short film every New Years that surprising. When I was reading the article, it reminded me of Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve. Every year, millions of people will watch Dick Clark for hours until the ball is dropped in Times Square. I did find it surprising that the film is so popular in Germany, and it hasn't been shown in either the US or the UK. I would figure that its popularity in Germany would make other countries want to air the film.
Sorry we're Closed- I was surprised that German stores aren't allowed to be open late or be open on Sunday. I always do my grocery shopping in the evening when I'm home. I couldn't imagine the grocery stores closing at 7. I'm surprised that the stores don't complain more. I think the extra money they'd make would out way their value of quiet on Sunday or in the evening.
Booze Brothers- Honestly, I wish our Father's Day was like the Germans. I think Father's Day and Mother's Day have just become hallmark holidays where small gifts are exchanged, and mothers and fathers don't get to do the stuff they like. I think the German's take it a little too far however. I don't think it can get a little too dangerous to have so many drunk people interacting with one another. However, I think the American holiday should still be changed. I think Father's Day should be moved to a Sunday in October where fathers just have to sit around drinking beer all day and watching football.
