I really like the Sorry: We're Closed article. This is so true. German stores aren't open on Saturday nights or Sunday at all. You must plan ahead for what you need for the weekend because they do not have late hours or Sunday openings. I think that it is interesting that the law that put this into place was established in 1919. It will be interesting to see if this law will eventually change in the future.

Another article that was fun to read was Booze Brothers. In Germany, Father's Day is celebrated very differently. Here dad's will go out with other men and/or spend time with family and their children, but in Germany most men participate in drinking and getting drunk. It starts early in the morning and goes all through the day. It has become a tradition since the 20th century. It is an interesting way to celebrate Father's Day, although I am sure this happens here in America too.

A article in the book called Fest- und Feiertage is interesting. I didn't realize they had that many holidays to celebrate. Some of the holidays are the same or similar, but some of them are only German culture related. For example, the Day of German Unity and Sankt Nikolaus. Saint Nikolas is when he comes and puts little gifts such as candy in children's shoes that they leave usually outside of their bedroom door. Also the Christmas tree is decorated with real candles on Christmas Eve by the parents. This is also when the presents are put under the tree. I think learning about their holidays shows and speaks a lot about the German culture and is very interesting.
