Kultur fur Kapitel 9

Bureaucracy Gone Awry: I think it is pretty intense that they keep so many different documents. I certainly could not survive there! I get sick of clutter and documents being everywhere easily so I tend to throw out all of my old work.

Love Thy Neighbor: Other than the strict laws about noise and neighbors taking each other to court over silly things a lot in this article is similar to places in the United States. The main similarity is taking care of your sidewalk in front of your house when it comes to snow. I know that's a big deal up North. Also if someone gets hurt on your sidewalk you can be sued. When it comes down to it, in America you can have neighbors that keep to themselves and those that complain about everything, just like in Germany.

Germany's Patriotism Problem: This was really interesting to read. In America we tout patriotism so much. Politicians even get called out if they do not show enough patriotism. But this values stem from our history as well. Out nation is based upon individual rights and loyalty to our idea of striking out on our own.

Wein: I never knew that Sigmund Freund was from Wien. It seems like a very dynamic place to visit. It was interesting that the previous rulers all have left their own mark on the city. I can't believe that they have a castle with 1,441 rooms. That is nearly impossible to imagine a building so large.

Berufwahl und Berufsausbildung in deutschsprachigen Landern: The way their educational system is developed is so different from the U.S. At first when they stated that some students started their apprenticeships early I felt bad for those students thinking that they were missing out on an education. Little did I know that they continue to learn about history, economics etc. I think that is something that is not really done in America. If a student takes the path of a laborer we generally do not put a lot of effort into their education.

Osterreich: It is odd to think a country roughly the size of Iowa could be neighbors with so many other countries. I think it would be a beautiful place to visit because of its mountains and lively culture. It also is likely a great place to attend a classical music concert.
